New Porsche Museum Celebrates First Anniversary

March 9, 2010 – 12:19 pm

Porsche_Museum_NachtIf you have some time to kill before or after the show, you might want to make a trip to Stuttgart’s Zuffenhausen district to visit the new Porsche museum. Porsche, which was founded in Stuttgart in 1931, has become synonymous with high-performance luxury automobiles for decades. Now one of the most profitable automakers in the world, Porsche began as an engineering firm and didn’t begin producing automobiles in earnest until 1950. Since then, however, the company has cemented its reputation as a manufacturer of iconic sports cars – notwithstanding its controversial foray into the SUV market a few years back. On 31 January, 2009, a new, €100-million museum dedicated to showcasing the company’s vehicles opened near the factory in Zuffenhausen. Approximately 80 cars and a number of small exhibits are on display at the new museum, which replaced a smaller museum that opened in 1976.

MEDTEC Europe: Cyclic Olefin Copolymer Resin Suitable for IVD Applications

March 8, 2010 – 10:56 am

A cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) resin suitable for in vitro diagnostic device applications has a property profile that fulfills the requirements of diagnostic slides, biochips, ultraviolet (UV) cuvettes, microplates and microfluidic devices, among other products. Topas COC offers glasslike optical properties, better UV transparency than other polymers, good chemical resistance and a high degree of dimensional stability. Other distinguishing characteristics of the resin include low autofluorescence, low birefringence, resistance to high temperatures and a high moisture barrier with low moisture sensitivity. In addition, the material exhibits very good flowability for processing. This allows for product design details to be reproduced accurately in moulding. Read more…

Automated Balloon Measurement System for Catheter Development and Manufacturing Lines

March 4, 2010 – 8:22 am

BMS Ballon Nahaufnahme_webAt MEDTEC Europe, IMSTec (Mainz, Germany) will introduce its new automated PTCA and PTA Balloon Measurement System, BMS, for catheter development and manufacturing lines. Technology and design provide precision and optimisation by combining three manual operations into one quick automated operation. These operations include profile measurements, contact-free wall thickness measurements, and defect review inspection and analysis. The operator only has to insert the balloon and start the recipe. A simple pass\fail disposition is provided or a detailed result analysis including balloon and shaft outer diameters, cone angles and balloon wall thicknesses are displayed on the balloon scans and in the result table. In addition, the operator has a defect review feature where defects can be classified and marked on the balloon images.
The BMS options include a contact-free balloon wall thickness measurement, high pressure for automated compliance testing and special balloon shape metrology.

The company will be exhibiting in hall 4, stand 537.

MEDTEC Europe: Level Sensors Feature Noninvasive Design

March 2, 2010 – 11:20 am

SensortechnicsContact-free capacitive sensor technology allows a line of level-sensing systems to measure continuously the fill level of both liquids and granular or pulverised materials in containers. Miniature CLC-series level sensors can be mounted easily on the outside of the container or vessel and are able to measure through almost any nonmetallic wall material; the noninvasive design eliminates media compatibility and sterility concerns. The standard level-sensing range is 10 cm, which can be enlarged via special multisensor configurations. The user can calibrate the flexible device for measuring to a desired level in a particular medium and with a particular application setup. A reference electrode that compensates for changes in ambient environmental conditions enables the sensing system to perform with high accuracy and reliability. Read more…
